You’ve probably heard the quote, “Throw kindness around like confetti” which sounds a little silly – but there’s some truth to it. There’s a lot going on in the world today – from major global issues trending on the news or social media, to the personal challenges of our everyday lives.
While the month of February is typically filled with the hype of Valentine’s Day, we at Piktochart have decided to take a different approach this year. We’ll be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week (#RAKWeek2017) in partnership with our friends at the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Here’s a brief description about #RAKWeek2017:
#RAKWeek2017 is an annual opportunity to unite through kindness during the week of February 12-18. Formally recognized in 1995, this seven-day celebration demonstrates that kindness is contagious. It all starts with one act – one smile, one coffee for a stranger, one favor for a friend. It’s an opportunity for participants to leave the world better than they found it and inspire others to do the same.
Why are we celebrating #RAKWeek2017?
Piktochart is built upon our core values of HOPEFUL and we translate those into our day-to-day lives. Our CEO, Ai Ching, once reminded us that it’s no coincidence that the letter L makes up the last acronym in our core values, because L stands for love. Without the value of love, it wouldn’t be possible to stand by the other core values of HOPEFUL.
Love is a verb which we believe can be expressed through the practice of kindness. #RAKWeek2017 provides our team a great opportunity to live and demonstrate the core values of being HOPEFUL.
While we may be an international team with 80% based in our headquarters and 20% working remotely across more than eight countries, we’re providing platforms for our team to participate in #RAKWeek2017. By placing posters with ideas for random acts of kindness in our workspace and on our Slack channel and using the #RandomActsOfPiktochart Kindness Generator, our main goal is to spread kindness to someone else during the week.
How can you be a part of #RAKWeek2017?
Now, we’re inviting you to take on the kindness challenge and join us in spreading kindness during the week of February 12-18. Don’t keep this to yourself! Rather, inspire others (your colleagues, students, neighbours, friends, and family) to do the same!
It doesn’t have to be a big and expensive act of kindness. It can be as simple as buying coffee for the person behind you in a cafe or letting someone go in front of you in line. It can be surprising your colleagues with flowers or placing positive notes on their desks. It can be encouraging your students to give each other compliments or bringing them some treats. Even a simple act of a smile and being patient with a busy sales assistant can go a long way. Practicing kindness can make a difference, but only with your help.
