Piktochart has been through some exciting events in the past months – the pinnacle of which was meeting President Obama himself. Here’s an update – mostly lived by Ai Ching, and vicariously through her, the team.

Founders Ai Ching and Andrea went off to meet with some leaders from Endeavor for the selection round. While Piktochart didn’t get selected for the program, we got to meet and pick the brains of some Malaysian business superstars. These are people who’ve been making waves, being disruptive and making an impact in the business world. They include the likes of Mark Chang who recently sold JobStreet for $400 million and Afzal from time.com.my who has built a phenomenal broadband business in Malaysia.

Being one of Malaysia’s Top 10 female entrepreneurs has its perks. Ching was given the opportunity to ‘give back’ to young Malaysians when she was invited to address a crowd of 7,000 young entrepreneurs at the launch of MaGIC. The attendees were hungry to know more and she was bombarded with difficult questions during the Q&A. This included questions like “What is it like to be a female entrepreneur in Malaysia” and “What would be the one thing you would tell young female Malaysians who aspire to be entrepreneurs?”.

Welcoming Cheryl

MaGic stands for Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre. It is tasked to create a healthy ecosystem in Malaysia for startups to grow and flourish. We are excited to have Cheryl Yeoh, a young but seasoned entrepreneur, return from San Francisco to lead this agency. The promise is great and we’re excited at the possibilities. Welcome home Cheryl!

The highlight has to be Ai Ching’s meeting with President Obama when he came to town for the launch of MaGIC. Charismatic, engaged and personable, he was very interested in the startup scene in Malaysia. The encounter may have lasted all but 3 minutes, but back in the office we’re constantly reliving Ai Ching’s experience giving it second life. Her experience has inspired us all to chase greater heights. It’s possible.
